Welcome to another dive into Del’s Delusional Ravings. AKA? How many books can you read and review in a month while still writing and editing your own. Well, Mistress is almost done being revised, and I have another Christmas project. But, seriously, that’s not why we are here today people. We are here because of this awesome book by Sarah Buhrman that I just finished reading. Too Wyrd, Book One in the Runespell Series. 

Now Runespells, you may be thinking to yourself, what are those? Well, if you enjoy Marvel movies, or comics, then you may have a small understanding of what they are. The Thor comics and movies mention them. The sacred Runestones that Heathen Scrys us to read fortunes, are designed off of these legendary stones. Which if ever fallen into the wrong hands, could start Ragnarok. Now hold on, hold on, hold on. You are either going, I remember something about that! Or, you just shook your head and asked if that isn’t the last boss in Molten Core in World of Warcraft. Well, not technically. Its Ragnaros in WoW. And there are 2 of him. If you watched the Second Thor movie though, this is starting to make sense.

Okay, now that we are all caught up on how fucked we can all be, imagine that not only are the Gods and Goddesses real, but every single pantheon on earth is. Not just the Norse or Greek. But the Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Egyptian. All of them. And they all have their own dimension in the astral plane that isn’t on the plane, but close enough. Following me? No? Well, lets pretend you are. So you know what this things are capable of. But you aren’t interested in that. Because that’s not the reason you came back in Indianapolis. You came back to find and protect your sister.

To get her out of whatever shit she had managed to get herself into this time. Only it’s much, much worse than you think. But not because of her. She’s great. Well, kinda. But you can handle what shit she’s in. It’s your ex and his new group of friends that are the big problem. Because they are intent on destroying the world. They are amassing followers by spreading lies about all the Norse gods. Odin specifically. You know Odin’s a dick. Everyone knows Odin’s a dick. His kids know he’s a dick. But he is also the All-Father and is respected as such.

And when the All-Father chooses you for a mission, you have two choices. Accept it. Die trying.

So when Nicola is chosen to find the Runespells and stop Ragnarok, she knows her fate. As much as she wants to deny it, and walk away, doing so would mean the end to the world. Her world, her friends, her daughter. A fate she refuses to accept. So she turns to the one person she trusts the most to help her. Joseph.

With his help, the Valkyrie Mercy’s help and some random interference from a muddling police detective who looks like he’s seen better days on the force, Nicola takes on her new fate.

Demons, desperate measures, freemasons!?! Even a run in with Satan himself (who apparently is a Rolling Stones fan) won’t deter her from getting what she needs to get done. By the time I was done reading this whirlwind adventure, I was already looking forward to the next one. There’s not much that I would change here, except that I wanted more details of what the demons looked like.

Otherwise, the book flowed nicely, the story kept an exciting even pace and the characters were well developed and ready for the next book and adventure. The search into the mythology was well done. I didn’t feel like anything was left out of it and I loved the way the astral planes were described. I hope we get to take a trip to Asgard eventually, or meet the elusive Jehovah.

Or maybe even Loki. Because that would be awesome. And because I am a total mythology nerd like that. I will be here waiting on bated breath and seat for the next book in this series.
